How are Beads Made?

Using glass rods in a variety of colours, that are then melted in the flame of the torch and wrapped around a metal rod called a 'mandrel'. The mandrel is what creates the hole of the bead, and can be adjusted by using different sized mandrels. Read more about how beads are made here.

Are the beads painted?

No. The designs are created by using various colours of glass rods. Different techniques are used to create different patterns.

How do you get the flowers inside the beads?

Top secret, I could tell you but I'd have to kill you. Just kidding!! By placing dots of glass just so and melting them together I can create a flower shape. By creating different layers of clear glass, it gives the appearance of floating flowers.

Do they break easily?

This depends on how well you take care of your BB original. If you take off your jewelry to sleep and bath it will greatly prolong the life of your piece. All jewelry is built on a double strand of tiger-tail wire, to ensure strength and durability.

How long does it take to make each bead?

Depending on the size and detail of the bead, a bead can take from five minutes to an hour to make.
